PURPOSE: “We help people's physical needs so that we might have an opportunity to meet their spiritual needs”

We continue as a church to be blessed to have the privilege of meeting the need of so many families of Hollis and the surrounding communities through the ministry of the Food Pantry. We praise the Lord, that through the written spiritual material that is placed in the food bags and the interaction of ministry servants, the love of the Lord is shared with so many families.

This has been a busy year for the Food Pantry. Many dedicated and faithful servants labor each week to have the Food Pantry meet the needs of so many. Over 200 individual families have passed through the Food Pantry this year. Each family may come once per month, with some coming only for one month and many each month throughout the year. A family may consist of one person or as many as eight at the present time. We have seen an 17% increase in 2009 for the monthly average family visits to the Food Pantry, the monthly average being over 82 families and the total family members equaling over 2,500 for the year. We thank the Lord for being so faithful in supplying the resources to meet such a great and growing need in our communities.

Only through the faithful generous contributions of the HCBC family and the partnership of the Pleasant Hill Church throughout the year is this vital need served. Also, the many individuals and community organizations who have donated food or financial support has been overwhelming. Each month free government surplus food is picked up in Sanford and for 16 cents per pound from the Good Shepherd Food Bank in Auburn. In total we have seen over 70,000 pounds pass through the Food Pantry in 2009 for a total overall cost equaling 8 cents per pound when you add in all the free & donated food.
